Guadeloupe is well served from mainland France, with active competition between four airlines keeping fares relatively manageable.
By air, several direct daily flights connect Paris to Pôle Caraïbes airport in Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP). From Paris-Orly, Air France, Air Caraïbes, Corsair and French Bee operate up to 6-8 rotations per day in peak season. Flight duration is around 8 hours outbound (headwind) and 7h30 return (tailwind). Fares vary considerably with season: €400-700 return in low season (May-June, September-November outside holidays), €800-1,200 in high season (December to March, July-August, school holidays). French Bee often offers the most aggressive fares, Air France provides the best in-flight services. Anticipate bookings 4 to 6 months ahead for prime windows.
From regional cities, few direct flights: only Air Caraïbes runs occasional services from Lyon and Marseille (seasonal). The vast majority of regional travellers transit through Paris-Orly. From Brussels, Geneva or Zurich, plan for a Paris (Air France) or Amsterdam (KLM/Air France) connection.
From North America: American Airlines and JetBlue operate flights to Pointe-à-Pitre from Miami, Boston and San Juan (Puerto Rico). Air Canada runs a seasonal Montreal-PTP service.
On arrival at Pôle Caraïbes (PTP), the airport sits in Les Abymes, 5 km north of Pointe-à-Pitre. Car hire is essential to explore the archipelago: agencies (Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Jumbo Car) are all represented at the terminal — count €35-55/day for a compact, mandatory advance booking in peak season (frequent stock-outs). Allow 30 minutes' drive to Sainte-Anne, 45 minutes to Saint-François, 1 hour to Deshaies, 1h30 to Basse-Terre town.
For the satellite islands: a maritime shuttle service connects Trois-Rivières (southern Basse-Terre) or Sainte-Anne to Les Saintes (1 hour, €30-40 return via L'Express des Îles or Iguana). Marie-Galante is accessible from Pointe-à-Pitre or Saint-François by shuttle (45 min to 1h15, €30-50 return). La Désirade from Saint-François by ferry (45 min, €30 return). Air connections also exist to Marie-Galante (15 min, €50-90) and La Désirade from Pôle Caraïbes via Air Antilles.
