   Day 1

   Arrival Colombo + Negombo

   Paris-Colombo flight via Doha (Qatar Airways), Dubai (Emirates) or Istanbul (Turkish) - 12-15h total, €600-900 return. Arrive CMB. ETA online visa $50 to do before departure (eta.gov.lk, 7-day delay). Collect bags and welcome English-speaking chauffeur-guide (€60-90/day ALL-INCLUSIVE - car, fuel, driver accommodation). Transfer to Negombo (15 min, more practical than Colombo after long flight). Settle hotel on beach (Jetwing Sea 4*, or guesthouse €30-50/night). Light Sri Lankan dinner (light rice & curry, coconut juice) to recover.

   Day 2

   Negombo → Sigiriya (4h)

   Drive Negombo -> Sigiriya (4h, 170 km via Kurunegala). First contact with Sri Lankan landscapes: rice fields, palm groves, colourful villages, Buddhist temples, exotic fruit market on roadside. Arrive Sigiriya early afternoon. Settle hotel (Sigiriya Village 4*, Aliya Resort 5* with rock view, or eco-lodges around). Afternoon visit to ancient royal gardens (5th c.) surrounding the Lion Rock: symmetrical pools, fountains functional for 1,500 years, royal audience remains. Panoramic sunset from Pidurangala Rock (neighbouring rock, 1h30 gentle climb, view of Sigiriya, free). Traditional rice & curry dinner with locals.

   Day 3

   Sigiriya Lion Rock + elephant safari

   Dawn 6am: climb the Sigiriya Fortress (Lion Rock, €30 entry). 1,200 steps over 200m elevation, partial elevators (Lion's metal staircase). At top: ruins of King Kasyapa's aerial palace (5th c.), pools, terraces. Halfway: Sigiriya damsels frescoes (20 damsels painted in beeswax, Asia's oldest painting 1,500 years), gold mirror (polished wall). 2-3h visit. Afternoon elephant safari at Minneriya National Park (€50-80/person, 4h): 'The Gathering' - gathering of 200-300 wild elephants around the lake in dry season (July-October). Otherwise Kaudulla National Park (nearby alternative). Back hotel at sunset.

   • · Sigiriya: climb at 6am dawn (avoid heat + crowds) - bring water and closed shoes
   • · The Gathering Minneriya: best July-October (dry season, low lake level)

   Day 4

   Sigiriya → Kandy (3h)

   Drive Sigiriya -> Kandy (3h, 90 km via Matale). Stops along the way: Matale spice garden (free guided tour with purchases: Ceylon cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, turmeric - botanist explanations in English), Dambulla cave temple UNESCO (5 painted 12th c. caves, 150 Buddha statues, colourful frescoes, €12). Arrive Kandy early afternoon. Settle hotel (Cinnamon Citadel Kandy 4*, Mahaweli Reach Hotel, or Theva Residency boutique). Evening Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) - the most sacred of Sri Lankan Buddhism (Buddha's tooth relic). Puja (ceremony) at 5:30pm with percussion and offerings, covered dress mandatory.

   Day 5

   Kandy → mythical train to Ella (7h)

   Morning: mythical train Kandy -> Ella (7h, 1st class Observation Car €10, BOOKED 1 MONTH AHEAD via 12go.asia). One of the world's most beautiful railway lines (Lonely Planet ranking): crossing high-altitude tea plantations, Nine Arches viaduct, waterfalls, morning fogs, Tamil villages. 7h journey with scenic stops. Meanwhile, the driver picks up car/luggage and meets you in Ella. Settle hotel in Ella (98 Acres Resort, Ella Flower Garden Resort, or Demodara guesthouse). Dinner in local cafe in Ella (international + Sri Lankan cuisine, backpacker atmosphere).

   Day 6

   Ella: Little Adam's Peak + Nine Arches

   Morning: hike Little Adam's Peak (1h30 round trip, 1,141m, 360° panoramic view over Ella valleys and tea plantations) or Ella Rock harder (4h round trip, 1,041m, spectacular view). Afternoon: visit Nine Arches viaduct (stone railway bridge built in 1921, entirely stone without any steel - 9 arches, 24m high over 91m long). Iconic photo at 9:30am or 11:45am when the train passes. For the postcard photo: descend into the valley from Ella via marked trail (45 min). Afternoon 2nd tea plantation (Lipton's Seat or Halpewatte) or Ravana Falls (mythological 25m falls, swimming possible). Local dinner.

   Day 7

   Ella → Yala (3h) + safari

   Drive Ella -> Yala (3h, 130 km via Tissamaharama). Changing landscapes: descent from mountain plateau to southern dry plain. Arrive Yala early afternoon. Settle lodge or camp in park buffer zone (Cinnamon Wild Yala 5*, Jetwing Yala, Leopard Trails camp). Afternoon Yala Block 1 safari (4h, €60-90/person shared jeep, €120-180 private jeep): the national park with the highest leopard density in the world (1 leopard per km2 in Block 1). Also: wild elephants, crocodiles, peacocks, monitor lizards, and 215 bird species. Sunset in the park. Back lodge, BBQ dinner.

   Day 8

   Yala → Mirissa (2h) + blue whales

   Dawn 5:30am: 2nd Yala Block 1 safari (golden light, more active animals - better chances of leopard). Back lodge 10am, brunch. Drive Yala -> Mirissa (2h, 90 km via Tangalle - south coast). Coastal landscapes: palm groves, deserted beaches, traditional stilt fishermen (famous Sri Lankan stilt fishermen). Arrive Mirissa midday. Settle beach hotel (Cape Weligama 5* luxury, Paradise Beach Club 4*, or Coconut Tree Hill guesthouses). Afternoon Mirissa beach relax (golden sand, palm trees, turquoise water). Iconic sunset from Coconut Tree Hill (small hill at the end of the beach, postcard photo). Fresh seafood dinner on the beach.

   Day 9

   Mirissa: blue whales + Galle

   Dawn 5:45am: blue whale excursion (4-5h boat, €40-80/person, December-April season ONLY). Sri Lanka is one of the 3 best spots in the world for observing the blue whale (largest animal ever - 30m, 200 tons). Ethical operators: Raja & The Whales (recommended, commitment to respectful distance), Mirissa Whale Watching. Observation probability: 80-90% in season (December-April). Also possible: humpback whales, dolphins, sharks. Back port midday. Afternoon drive Mirissa -> Galle (40 min, 40 km). Visit Galle Fort UNESCO: restored Dutch colonial old town (17th c.), paved streets, sea ramparts, Dutch church, mosque, temples. Sunset on the ramparts.

    Galle → Colombo → Paris return

    Quiet morning in Galle: walk through Fort streets, last photos, souvenir shopping (silver jewellery, Ceylon tea, batiks). Colonial cafes for brunch (Pedlar's Inn Cafe, Old Railway Cafe). Drive Galle -> CMB airport (3h, 160 km via highway) or scenic coastal train Galle-Colombo (3h, €5 in 1st class). 4h margin recommended for airport (Bandaranaike International, controls sometimes slow). Evening Colombo-Paris flight via Doha, Dubai or Istanbul (12-15h total). End of trip. For luggage: Ceylon tea (bought at plantation 50% cheaper than airport), spices, Buddhist statuettes.
