Anse de Colombier
One of Saint Barth's secret jewels: paradise beach accessible only on foot (30 min walk from Petite Anse) or by boat. Pristine white sand, crystalline turquoise water, totally preserved, exceptional snorkelling — a nature experience in the ultra-luxury setting.
The Anse de Colombier is one of the most beautiful beaches in Saint Barthélemy — a real secret jewel of the north-west of the island, accessible only on foot (30 minutes walk from the Petite Anse car park) or by boat. This access difficulty explains its exceptional preservation and peaceful atmosphere, miles away from the animation of Saint-Jean or Gustavia.
The beach unrolls its pristine white sand over about 300 m, framed by green hills and bathed in crystalline turquoise water. The seabed is rocky on the north side (ideal for snorkelling) and sandy in the centre (perfect for swimming). No infrastructure on site: no restaurant, no sun lounger rental, no toilets. You must bring everything (water, snacks, umbrella, mask-snorkel, sunscreen).
The foot access is from the Petite Anse car park (D210 road north, after Colombier village, free parking). Follow the marked trail which lines the coast on the heights — easy level but uneven (stone, light slope, 30-minute duration). The trail offers spectacular panoramic views over the north coast of Saint Barth, the Fourchue islet (nature reserve visible offshore) and in the distance Saint Martin and neighbouring Saint Barth. Walking shoes or sturdy flip-flops recommended (no loafers, no high heels). Plan for water (minimum 2 l/person) — no water point on the trail or at the beach.
Snorkelling at Colombier is exceptional — one of the best experiences on the island. Along the north rocks (200-300 m from the shore, swimming), you regularly observe: sea turtles (especially green turtles), rays (stingrays), multicoloured fish (parrotfish, angelfish, sergeant major, damselfish), sometimes juvenile lemon sharks (harmless, 50-80 cm). Bring your own equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) — no rental on site. Low tide in the morning offers the best visibility conditions.
The boat alternative: excursions from Gustavia with several providers (Marine Service, Yannis Marine, BluBay) — half-day €60-90/person, full day with lunch and snorkelling €130-180. Ideal if you want to avoid walking or to combine with other islets (Fourchue, Frégate). The boat also allows access to the neighbouring Petite Anse beach (even more secret, accessible only by sea).

Our verdict
The Anse de Colombier is the most memorable beach experience in Saint Barth — a real secret jewel that deserves the walking effort. Devote a full day to Colombier (morning arrival on foot, swimming and snorkelling in the morning for best visibility, packed lunch picnic, afternoon nap on the sand, return in late afternoon). Bring EVERYTHING: water (minimum 2 l/person), snacks, umbrella (no natural shade), mask-snorkel for snorkelling, factor 50 sunscreen, walking shoes for the trail. Leave early (before 10 am for the low sun and cool trail) or late (after 3 pm for sunset — but come back down before 5:30 pm). Boat alternative for those who cannot walk: excursion from Gustavia (€60-90/person half-day).
