Goa

Getting around — Goa

Goa is best explored by scooter or motorbike (300-600 INR/day, international license strongly recommended, mandatory helmet). It's by far the most popular and relevant option for flexibility — Goa is a compact territory (60 km north-south, NH66 road along the coast). Left-hand driving (British heritage), traffic globally calmer than elsewhere in India.

Tourist taxis (white-yellow official taxis, 1,000-2,500 INR/day for 8h with driver) are the comfortable alternative. Auto-rickshaws are less common in Goa than elsewhere in India — only in cities. Uber doesn't work in Goa (traditional taxi lobby), but GoaMiles (equivalent local app launched 2018) covers the entire territory.

Domestic flights: Mumbai-Goa 1h for €30-80, Delhi-Goa 2h30 for €60-150, Bengaluru-Goa 1h, Kochi-Goa 1h30. Goa has two airports: Dabolim International Airport (GOI) in centre-south, historic and more used, and Manohar International Airport (GOX, Mopa) in the north (opened December 2022).

The train from Mumbai on the Konkan Railway line (one of India's most scenic, 740 km along the west coast through tunnels and viaducts): Mumbai-Madgaon 9-11h in AC 2-tier berth (700-1,500 INR).
