Marie-Galante is flat, small (158 km², 23 km diameter) and ideal for discovery by soft mobility or small vehicle.
Scooter hire (€25-35/day, several agencies in Grand-Bourg and Saint-Louis) is the most popular option — practical, economical, ideal for the island's pace. Bike (€15-20/day, sometimes electric €30) is an ecological alternative but demanding due to tropical heat — prefer journeys early in the morning and late afternoon. For families or those preferring comfort, car hire (€40-55/day, to be booked in advance — limited stock on the island).
Distances are short: Grand-Bourg-Capesterre 12 km (20 min), Grand-Bourg-Saint-Louis 13 km (20 min), Saint-Louis-Anse Canot 5 km (10 min), Grand-Bourg-Bielle Distillery 7 km (15 min). It's entirely possible to tour the island in one day (60-70 km) by stopping at the main distilleries and beaches.
For the return to Guadeloupe: maritime shuttle from Grand-Bourg or Saint-Louis to Pointe-à-Pitre (Bergevin) or Saint-François (45 min to 1h15, €30-50 return, several daily rotations). Air Antilles flight from Grand-Bourg airfield to Pôle Caraïbes (15 min, €50-90).
