Sri Lanka's South Coast stretches for nearly 200 kilometres along the Indian Ocean, from Bentota in the north to Tangalle in the east, via Hikkaduwa, Galle, Unawatuna, Weligama, Mirissa and Talalla. A dense tropical coast packed with beach resorts, surf spots, cultural sites and nature reserves, ideal for gently concluding a Sri Lankan circuit after the intensity of the Cultural Triangle and the Hill Country.
For a short trip (3-4 days), base yourself in Mirissa or Galle and combine both worlds: morning for whales from Mirissa, afternoon to explore Galle Fort at sunset. This compact formula gives access to both flagship experiences in the region without moving your luggage too much.
Over 5 to 7 days, the ideal itinerary splits into three legs: 2 nights at Galle (immersion in the fort, dinner on the ramparts at Tuna & The Crab or Pedlar's Inn), 2 nights at Mirissa (whales, Coconut Tree Hill beach, surf trips to Weligama or Midigama) and 1-2 nights at Tangalle for quiet (wild coves, Rekawa turtle sanctuary, dinner toes-in-the-sand at Eva Lanka).
