The Isle of Pines follows the rhythm of New Caledonia's tropical-oceanic climate, with a slightly warmer and more stable microclimate than Grande Terre.
The austral spring (September to November) is the optimal period: perfect temperatures (24-28 °C by day, 20-23 °C at night), low humidity, clear skies, calm seas, lagoon water at 24-26 °C with maximum visibility. The dream season for the Oro Natural Pool, Upi Bay pirogue excursions, and photography of the columnar pines.
The austral winter (May to August) is also very pleasant: cool temperatures (22-25 °C by day, 17-20 °C at night), clear skies, sustained trade winds. The driest season of the year. Lagoon water drops to 22-24 °C. Trade winds can hamper pirogue trips in Upi Bay.
The austral summer (December to April) brings heat (28-32 °C), humidity (75-85%), frequent tropical rains and cyclone risk. The Isle of Pines, by its advanced position in the Pacific, is particularly exposed. Air Calédonie flights from Nouméa can be cancelled.
Best months: September, October, November.
