The ascent of La Soufrière is the central experience. From the Savane à Mulets car park (1,140 m), the stone-marked trail reaches the summit crater in 1h30 of sustained walking. The landscape changes progressively: humid tropical forest at the start, transition to increasingly stunted vegetation (lichens, mosses), then lunar landscape of bare volcanic rock, fumaroles and sulphur vapours. At the summit, the crater tour (30-45 additional minutes) allows admiring several chasms of tens of metres and the panoramic view of the archipelago. Allow 3h round-trip minimum.
The Carbet Falls (from Capesterre Belle-Eau, windward coast) are the other must-see. The 2nd fall (110 m) is the most accessible: 30-40 min walk from the car park, swimming permitted at the foot (beware of currents). The 1st fall (115 m) requires 2h round-trip on a demanding trail. On site, don't miss Grand Étang (crater lake, 5 min from car park).
The Bains Jaunes (sulphurous hot pool at 30 °C, 950 m altitude, free) offer restful swimming after the ascent. Access from the Maison du Volcan car park (D11), 30 min round-trip on a marked trail. Bring swimsuit and towel.
The Route de la Traversée (D23) crosses the National Park from east to west in 30 min. Unmissable stops: Cascade aux Écrevisses (15 min round-trip, pool swimming), Maison de la Forêt (free visit, starting point for themed trails), Mamelles (zoological park to see with children).
