Corsica, the Island of Beauty, is one of the most singular islands in the Mediterranean. 170 km from mainland France, it retains a marked cultural identity — Corsican language officially recognised, vocal polyphonies, specific gastronomy, shepherd traditions. But it's mainly for its landscapes that one comes: paradise beaches in the south (Palombaggia, Santa Giulia), Bonifacio citadel perched on cliffs, UNESCO Calanques de Piana in the northwest, and the mountainous interior dominated by Monte Cinto (2,706 m).
For a weekend (3 days), it's short but possible: focus on Bonifacio + Porto-Vecchio beaches (direct flight to Figari, 30 min from Bonifacio). With a week (7 days), target one sub-region: south (Porto-Vecchio + Bonifacio + Sartène + Ajaccio) or north (Calvi + Saint-Florent + Cap Corse + Bastia). Over 10-14 days, the complete tour of the island is possible: south over 5-6 days then transfer to the north via the panoramic Gulf of Porto road (Calanques de Piana) over 5-6 days.
The key to a successful stay: a car is essential (Corsican roads are magnificent but winding — count 2-3 times longer than the distance suggests). Book your ferries and accommodation very early for July-August (the best rentals are taken from January-February). And above all, don't rush: Corsica is best savoured slowly.
