For those who prefer village authenticity, better to do it as a return trip from Ella (1h30 by train or shared taxi) to visit Mackwoods Labookellie and Horton Plains, and sleep in Ella. Our advice: plan Horton Plains at sunrise (departure 5 am, hike 6 am-9 am) to get World's End without fog, then treat yourself to afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel (1828) or the Hill Club for a taste of the colonial atmosphere.
