The north region enjoys Saint Barth's tropical climate — constant Caribbean trade winds, generous sunshine, warm sea. It's also the windiest area (perfect for kitefoil at Grand Cul-de-Sac and surfing at Anse des Cayes).
Carême (December to April) is the peak. Temperatures 24-29 °C, sea at 26-27 °C, maximum sunshine, constant trade winds (perfect for water sports). Saint-Jean in high season is very lively: planes every 15-30 minutes, full beach clubs, Eden Rock booked. Rates at their maximum: Eden Rock €1,200-3,500/night, Cheval Blanc €1,500-4,500. Book 6-12 months ahead.
May makes an excellent shoulder season: weather still favourable, sharply lower rates, Anse de Colombier often deserted on weekdays, magical snorkelling. Period favoured by experienced travellers.
Hivernage (June to November) brings showers and major hurricane risk in August-October (Irma 2017). Many hotels and restaurants close 2-3 months (September to mid-October). Lowest rates (up to -60 %) but real risk.
