North & Saint-Jean

Things to do — North & Saint-Jean

The north and Saint-Jean region is lived alternating beach days, plane observations, snorkelling at Colombier and Pointe Milou dinners.

Saint-Jean is the seaside heart. Beach day on the white sand, swimming in the calm lagoon, plane spotting at SBH airfield (several flights per day, steep descent over the Tourmente, landings 10 m from the beach). Lunch at La Plage Beach or Nikki Beach (€50-150/person, festive atmosphere). Sunset aperitif at Eden Rock (book the On The Rocks bar, panoramic view over the bay). Shopping at La Villa Créole (chic centre) or Pelican Beach.

Anse de Colombier is the most iconic nature experience of the area. Morning departure (around 9 am) from the Petite Anse car park (road D210 north, after the Colombier village). 30 min walk on a marked seaside trail (spectacular views, light slope). On the beach: exceptional snorkelling (multicoloured fish, sometimes turtles), swimming in crystalline water, picnic lunch brought (zero service). Plan 4-5 hours on site, return via the same trail in late afternoon.

Anse des Flamands is lived as a comfortable beach day — long beach facing the open sea, calm water, seaside restaurants (notably La Case de l'Isle at Cheval Blanc, open to non-residents). It's one of the most beautiful beaches on the island for those wanting the beach + upscale service combination.

Anse des Cayes is the island's surf spot. Regular waves from November to April (1-2 m, intermediate). Equipment rentals (€50-80/day) and lessons (€60-100 per session). Seaside restaurant O'Corail (excellent and more accessible than Saint-Jean beach clubs, €40-70/person).

Lorient is a picturesque hamlet — beach lined with coconut palms (one of the most authentic, popular with local families), evocative seaside cemetery, small church, a few local bakeries and snacks.

Pointe Milou and Toiny are lived mainly in the evening — dinner at the legendary Le Ti St Barth (at Pointe Milou, €80-150/person excluding drinks + performances, to book 1-2 weeks ahead), or gastronomic dinner at Hôtel Le Toiny (south, €150-250/person). Wilder and more natural atmosphere.
