Les Trois-Îlets
Martinique's historic seaside resort: hotel-clubs, marina, casino and 20-minute maritime shuttle to Fort-de-France — the most structured seaside pole of the island.
Les Trois-Îlets are one of the most emblematic seaside communes of Martinique — the historic resort of the island, developed from the 1970s around Pointe du Bout to welcome the first major flows of international tourism. The commune owes its name to three islets (Boucher, Sixtain, Charles) that close the Fort-de-France bay to the southwest, and unfolds on a rocky point covered with coconut groves, villas, hotel-clubs and an active marina.
The Pointe du Bout is the heart of the seaside resort: marina (Le Marina), casino (the only one of the island), shops, beachfront restaurants, hotel-clubs (Bambou, Sofitel — now under other brands after renovation). It is also the embarkation point of the maritime shuttle that connects Pointe du Bout to Fort-de-France in 20 minutes (€4-6 one way, several rotations per hour from 6:30am to 6:30pm).
Two family beaches frame Pointe du Bout. Anse Mitan, main beach of the quarter, offers 800 metres of golden sand, calm sea and complete beach infrastructure (lolos, deck chair and paddle rental, diving school). Anse à l'Âne, 2 km to the west, is calmer, with a preserved authentic village atmosphere.
The cultural dimension of Trois-Îlets is not lacking. The Pagerie Museum, 4 km from the village, is installed in the birthplace of Joséphine de Beauharnais (1763-1814), first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress of the French. The Savane des Esclaves (4 km from the village), reconstructed Creole village, retraces with remarkable pedagogy the history of slavery in Martinique. The artisan village offers basketry, pottery, madras works, local jewellery.
The village of Trois-Îlets (3 km from Pointe du Bout) has retained an authentic character: Creole church, market, family tables d'hôtes.
What we love
- ✅Most structured seaside resort of Martinique: hotel-clubs, marina, casino, restaurants
- ✅Family beaches of Anse Mitan and Anse à l'Âne: calm sea, supervision, complete infrastructure
- ✅Maritime shuttle to Fort-de-France in 20 min: picturesque and practical option without a car
- ✅Pagerie Museum and Savane des Esclaves: cultural and memorial richness
- ✅Diversified nautical activities: sailing, diving, jet-ski, paddle, kayak, catamaran outing
What to know
- ❌More tourist atmosphere than authentic villages (Sainte-Anne, Anses d'Arlet)
- ❌High rates in high season (€200-450/night hotels in carême)
- ❌No exceptional beach in the sense of Les Salines (golden sand, modest lagoon)
- ❌Marina sometimes noisy in the evening (very lively bar terraces)
- ❌Limited authentic village life — prefer Trois-Îlets village for immersion

Our verdict
Les Trois-Îlets are the most structured and accessible seaside resort of Martinique — ideal for a first family stay or for a traveller on short escape wishing to maximise logistics. Pointe du Bout offers everything a comfort-mode traveller seeks: hotel-clubs, marina, restaurants, family beaches, maritime shuttle to Fort-de-France. Plan 3 to 5 days on Trois-Îlets, in combination with Sainte-Anne (30 min) for Les Salines and Fort-de-France (20 min by boat) for the urban dimension. Book 3 to 6 months in advance in high season. For a more authentic experience, prefer Trois-Îlets village or an independent rental at Anse à l'Âne rather than the large Pointe du Bout hotel-clubs.
