The Deshaies Botanical Garden is the central experience of the village. 7 hectares laid out on the heights (1 km north of the village), former Coluche estate (1979-1986) opened to the public in 2001 by his family. Over 1,000 tropical plant species, parrot aviary, pink flamingos, Koi carp pools, orchid greenhouse, panoramic viewpoint. Entry €16, 1h30-2h minimum visit. One of the most beautiful tropical gardens in the Antilles.
Grande Anse Beach (3 km north, D6 access) is Deshaies' seaside emblem. 800 m of golden sand, crystalline turquoise water, coconut palms offering natural shade. Iconic sunset around 5:45-6:15 pm. Free parking (saturated in high season, arrive before 10 am). Some lolos for lunch. No surveillance.
La Perle Beach (5 km north) is more discreet, frequented by locals. Golden sand, crystalline water, preserved atmosphere.
The 'Death in Paradise' settings can be visited on foot in the village: commissioner's house (on the beach to the west), Catherine's bar (Coco's Bar Restaurant on the port), Saint-Pierre church, market square. Free map at the tourist office. 1h-1h30 for the complete tour.
The Deshaies port welcomes the colourful fishing boats that leave at 4 am and return at 6-8 am with fresh fish (snapper, dolphinfish, king mackerel, red snapper). Go see the morning unloading — authentic spectacle.
The Saut d'Acomat (waterfall in tropical forest, accessible by path 30 min round-trip from the bridge 20 min by car south of the village) is a nice family hike. Swimming possible in the natural pool at the foot of the waterfall.
