The reference budget of €110/day/person corresponds to a comfortable stay in the region: 3-star hotel night in Pontorson or Beauvoir (€80-130/night for two), lunch on the Mount (€25-40/person), traditional restaurant dinner nearby (€30-50/person), abbey entry (€13).
Sleeping on the Mount (5 hotels, €250-450/night, booking 6 months ahead mandatory) offers a unique experience: the Mount empties in late afternoon, the atmosphere becomes magical at dusk. In the morning, you have the abbey almost to yourself before 9 am. Auberge Saint-Pierre (exceptional view), Hôtel Croix Blanche, Mère Poulard (historic).
Sleeping in Pontorson (TGV station, 8 km) or Beauvoir (3 km, at the foot of the parking): mid-range hotels €60-130/night, free shuttle to the Mount. More practical for transport, much cheaper.
Access: TGV Paris-Rennes (1h25) + coach/car to the Mount (1h15). Or direct TGV Paris-Pontorson (3h, with change). Mandatory parking 2.5 km from the Mount (€15/day). Free shuttle (12 min) or walk (35 min). On the Mount, everything is done on foot (no vehicles allowed).
Catering: on the Mount, dominated by tourist traps. Exceptions: La Mère Poulard (historic restaurant, giant soufflé omelette, €45-80 menu, more historic than gastronomic experience), Auberge Saint-Pierre. Off-site: La Cabane des Fouasses (Beauvoir, AOP salt-meadow lamb, €30-45), Le Mouton Blanc (on the Mount but discreet, €25-40). Specialities: Mère Poulard omelette, AOP salt-meadow lamb, Cancale oysters (30 min away), crêpes and galettes, AOP Cotentin cider.
Tip: visit the abbey at opening (9 am) or in nocturne (summer only, from 7:30 pm) to avoid the worst crowds of 10 am-5 pm.
