Frequently asked questions

How many days for Iguazu?+
Minimum 2 nights to peacefully visit both sides of the falls. Typical itinerary: D1 arrival at Foz do Iguaçu (domestic flight from Rio 2h, São Paulo 1h30, Cuiabá 1h30, €100-300 return), check-in, recovery afternoon. D2 Brazilian side visit in morning (4-5h, Centro de Visitantes 8am-5pm, Garganta del Diablo walkway, optional Macuco Safari boat), afternoon relaxation at hotel or Itaipu (world's 2nd largest hydroelectric dam, 2h, €25). D3 Argentinian side visit (border crossing from Foz to Puerto Iguazú 30 min, 3 walkway circuits, 6-8h on site, evening return), Brazilian side night. D4 departure. For short-stay travellers: possibility to visit both sides in 1 intensive day (BR morning + AR afternoon, tiring but possible, organise with operator €80-120/person including transfers and border crossing). Optional: 3 nights including Bird Park (private bird park adjacent, €30) and helicopter flight (€200-400/person, ecologically controversial).
Need a visa to visit Argentinian side from Brazil?+
No, no visa required for French and EU citizens to briefly visit Argentina from Brazil. Biometric passport (valid 6 months) is essential. At border crossing (Tancredo Neves bridge), standard 15-30 min customs formalities: Brazil exit + Argentina entry Argentinian side, then evening return. No paper migration card to fill. Advice: bring your passport AND photocopy (just in case). Customs officers sometimes check Brazilian return tickets. If you take an organised excursion (€50-80/person with transfers and border crossing included, Loumar Turismo, Iguassu Falls Tours operators), everything is managed by operator — very practical for single day. If going independently: taxi/Uber to Tancredo Neves bridge 50-70 BRL, walk or Argentinian bus to Puerto Iguazú 5-10 ARS, bus 11 to Iguazú park 6 ARS, evening return. 1h30-2h total transfers.
Which is the better side: Brazil or Argentina?+
Both sides are complementary and offer radically different experiences — that's why we strongly recommend visiting both. Brazilian side (panoramic view): 1.2 km canyon trail with belvederes, walkway reaching Garganta del Diablo base, spectacular global view on all 275 cascades (which are mainly Argentinian side, but better viewed from opposite!), shorter visit 4-6h, more accessible for families with children or seniors (few stairs), €25-35 entry. Argentinian side (immersion): 3 walkway circuits leading directly above, beside and below individual falls, more active and longer experience (6-8h), passage through forest with coatis and birds, climax at Garganta del Diablo by train + 30 min walkway over fall, more walking (4-6 km cumulative on day), €30-40 entry. Our advice: D1 Brazilian side morning (overview), D2 Argentinian side full day (immersion). If you can only do one, choose Argentinian side for most immersive experience — but you'll regret missing the Brazilian panoramic view.
Should you do Macuco Safari (boat at falls)?+
Yes, it's one of Iguazu Brazilian side's most memorable experiences. Macuco Safari (€60-90/person, ~1h30) is a Zodiac boat excursion descending Rio Iguaçu downstream of falls, then back upstream to falls' base, approaching several cascades' base — you're literally under the shower, in the heart of the roar and water mist. Included: 4WD jeep transfers from Centro de Visitantes through Atlantic forest (with naturalist guide, fauna and flora observation), boat descent on Rio Iguaçu, falls approach (3 approaches, full shower guaranteed), return. Mandatory gear: swimsuit, quick-dry t-shirt, sandals (no flip-flops), towel. Waterproof bags provided for smartphones and cameras. Booking: directly on site at Centro de Visitantes (€10-15 cheaper) or online (quick in high season). Avoid if: afraid of water, want to keep clothes dry, have cardiovascular issues (intense sensations). Tip: do it afternoon after seeing Brazilian side falls in morning (recovery after shower).
How to get to Iguazu from Europe?+
No direct flight from Europe to Foz do Iguaçu. Access mandatory via domestic flight from a major Brazilian or Argentinian city. Option 1 (recommended): Air France/Latam Paris-Rio (11h direct, €700-1,500 return by season) or Paris-São Paulo (11h30 direct, similar), then domestic flight Rio-Foz do Iguaçu (IGU) 2h or São Paulo-Foz 1h30 (€100-300 return, Latam, Gol, Azul, several flights/day). Total: 14-16h transit, €1,200-1,800 complete budget. Option 2 (Pantanal combined): from Cuiabá, direct Cuiabá-Foz do Iguaçu 1h30 flight (€150-300 return) — ideal for Pantanal + Iguazu nature trip. Option 3 (Argentina): Buenos Aires-Puerto Iguazú flight (2h, €100-200) then border crossing to Brazil — useful if combining Buenos Aires and Iguazu. From IGU airport to Foz centre: taxi 50-70 BRL (€10-12), Uber 30-50 BRL, 20 min. From Foz centre to Brazilian side park: line 120 public bus (4-5 BRL, 30 min), taxi 50-70 BRL, hotel shuttle by booking.

Our verdict

Iguazu Falls (Brazilian side) are one of the world's great natural wonders and an unmissable site of any Brazil or Argentina trip. Our strong recommendation: visit both sides over 2 days (1 day Brazil for panoramic view, 1 day Argentina for walkway immersion) — it's the most complete and impactful formula. Plan minimum 2 nights in Foz do Iguaçu (hotel near park or in centre, €50-300/night range by standing). Travel from April to October (Brazilian dry season) for powerful stable flow, pleasant climate and ideal photography light. Our preferred windows: May-June (cool climate, moderate crowds) and August-September (out of Brazilian holidays, optimal conditions). Avoid July (Brazilian crowds) and December-February (heat, humidity). Add the Macuco Safari (boat at falls' base, €60-90/person) for the memorable experience. Combine Iguazu (2 nights) with Rio (3-4 nights) or Pantanal (4 nights) for a complete 7-12 day Brazilian trip. Iguazu is one of the greatest natural wonders you'll see in your life — that's also why there are crowds. But the emotion in front of Garganta del Diablo, the deafening roar of the falls, the permanent rainbow over the canyon, remain unforgettable.
