The French side of Saint Martin is the authentic and refined wing of the island — that of vibrant Creole culture (Marigot), renowned gastronomy (Grand-Case) and preserved sunset beaches (Baie Rouge, Friar's Bay, Happy Bay). For a 7-10 day stay in Saint Martin, it's the most natural base: you land here (via SXM Dutch side, 15-30 min transfer), you find the best restaurants of the French Antilles, and you live the relaxed pace of a modern French COM.
The visit organises itself naturally around three poles: Marigot (urban and cultural, to the west), Grand-Case (gastronomic, in the centre-north), and the western beaches (from Baie Nettlé to Long Bay, the beach side). Each deserves one to two days depending on style. The north-east side (Orient Bay, Anse Marcel) is discovered from this base on day trips.
For a short stay (4-5 days), base yourself in Grand-Case (or Baie Nettlé): day 1 Marigot (market, Fort), days 2-3 western beaches and lolo lunches, day 4 gastronomic Grand-Case in the evening and Orient Bay excursion in the day, day 5 Pic Paradis or boat to Anguilla. For 7-10 days, add a catamaran excursion to Tintamarre/Pinel and several leisure days.
