Budget — El Nido

El Nido remains one of the most accessible destinations in Southeast Asia relative to the quality of the landscapes and the experiences on offer. The indicative budget of €50 per person per day corresponds to a comfortable trip: a double room in a guesthouse or a small good hotel, three meals in good local restaurants and one island-hopping tour on excursion days.

Accommodation spans a wide range. A dormitory bed in a town-center hostel runs €8–12 per night. A double room in a simple guesthouse with a fan sits between €20 and €35. Boutique stays with a pool, terrace and bay view negotiate at €60 to €110 per night. The handful of high-end eco-resorts on the archipelago (Miniloc Island Resort, Cauayan Island Resort) exceed €200 per night all inclusive — still a rare segment in El Nido but growing.

Food is one of the cheapest line items. A full meal (rice, grilled fish or seafood, soup) in a local restaurant costs PHP 150–250 (€2.50–4.50). The tourist-front seafood restaurants serve grilled fish platters for PHP 400–700 (€7–12). Count on PHP 800–1,200 (€14–22) for a dinner for two in a more polished spot, water and a local beer included.

Island-hopping tours are usually the biggest single line item in El Nido. Official shared tours (A, B, C, D) cost between PHP 1,200 and 1,800 per person (€21–32), lunch and snorkeling equipment included. Private tours, with a boat to yourself or your group, start at PHP 4,000–6,000 (€70–105) for the boat. Book directly with licensed operators at the tour office or boat terminal to avoid middleman commissions, and verify the boat's safety equipment before paying.

Three budget profiles emerge clearly. The backpacker on €25–30 per day sleeps in a dormitory, eats in carinderias (Filipino canteens) for less than €2 per meal and shares tours with other travelers. The mid-range traveler at €50 per day enjoys a private room, two or three full tours and varied meals. The honeymooner or comfort-seeker at €80–120 per day books boutique stays and private boats. Incidental costs stay modest: tricycle transfers around town cost PHP 20–50, and renting a scooter for the Nacpan day trip runs PHP 350–500 per day. The environmental fee (Bacuit Bay access) sits at around PHP 200 per visitor — a small direct contribution to maintaining the site.
