Port-Louis

Budget — Port-Louis

Port-Louis suits a wide range of budgets. On a comfort budget — hotel or guesthouse in the city centre or Caudan, meals at the Central Market for lunch and a Creole restaurant in the evening, a few paid entries and a taxi at the end of the day — count around €70/person/day. A typical day: 3-star hotel (€40–55/night), lunch at the Market (€4–6), Fort Adelaide and Aapravasi Ghat entries (€3–5 combined), taxi to the Citadel (€3–4), dinner at the Caudan Waterfront (€18–25).

The budget traveller can come down to €35–45/day: family guesthouse in the city centre (€20–25/night), all meals at the Central Market and small Bazar restaurants (€3–7 per dish), walking to most sites. Luxury in Port-Louis is found mainly in the coastal resorts nearby; in the city itself, upscale options are limited to a few international business hotels (€180–300/night) and Caudan waterfront restaurants.

Practical note: buses cover the entire island from the Port-Louis terminal at minimal cost (€0.50–1.50). For exploring the rest of the island, a rental car (€30–50/day) offers the most flexibility — but driving in the city is not recommended on weekdays at rush hour.
