Typical 2-night programme: D1 boarding Alleppey or Kumarakom 12-1pm, briefing, air-conditioned cabin settling, lunch on board (Kerala-style fish, local vegetables, dessert), afternoon navigation main and secondary canals, village stops, observation Kuttanad rice fields below sea level, 6pm mooring in calm canal, dinner on deck at sunset, cabin night. D2 wake to birdsong, breakfast deck (appam, puttu, fruits, chai), morning navigation less frequented zones, lunch Keralan sadya on banana leaf, afternoon spice farm or Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary visit, dinner deck, night. D3 breakfast, return navigation, 9-10am disembarkation. Specific activities. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary (14 ha bordering Vembanad Lake, open 6am-6pm, 100 INR ≈ €1 entry foreigners, 25+ winter migratory species — teals, shovelers, herons, ospreys, cormorants, kingfishers — local guide €15-25 for 2h traditional boat walk, ideal early morning 6-8am or late afternoon 4-6pm). Village stops: coir crafts (coconut fibre ropes), palm leaf weaving, spice farms (pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla — €15-25 guided tour with tasting), toddy distilleries (local fermented palm wine). Keralan cooking class with your on-board chef (on request, free or €15-25 by operator): appam, sadya, karimeen pollichathu. Ayurvedic massages (on some premium boats or in Kumarakom resorts — Coconut Lagoon, Vivanta Kumarakom — €30-80 for 1h). Snake Boat Races (August Nehru Trophy at Alleppey, July Champakulam — grand spectacle but in monsoon). Public day cruise (economical alternative, 6-8h, €20-40/person, shared houseboat or simpler boat — good compromise for limited budget). Deck yoga (some operators offer 30 min morning-evening).
