Giza

Budget — Giza

Giza can be visited at several budget levels. On a comfort budget — based in Cairo with a day trip to Giza, plateau + GEM + Tutankhamun + English-speaking guide + lunch — count around €70/person/day. A concrete example: accommodation in Zamalek (€40/night pro rata), round-trip Uber Cairo-Giza (€12), plateau entry (€8), GEM + Tutankhamun ticket (€35), shared guide in a group of 4 (€15), lunch at Mena House (€20), tips (€5).

Accommodation in Giza itself is a niche. The Marriott Mena House (historic palace at the foot of the plateau, opened in 1869 for the Suez Canal inauguration) offers pyramid-view rooms from €280/night — one of the most memorable hotel experiences in the world. Le Méridien Pyramids and several neighbouring 4-stars offer similar views at €100-180/night. Popular guesthouses (Pyramids View Inn, Mamlouk Gardens) have panoramic terraces at €30-60/night, ideal for tighter budgets who still want the pyramids on waking.

Entry fees have climbed sharply since GEM opened in 2024. Pyramids plateau: €8 adult (€4 student). Entry inside Khufu: €20 extra. Khafre or Menkaure: €6 extra. Solar Boat Museum: €4. Grand Egyptian Museum: €25 without Tutankhamun, around €35 with the Tutankhamun gallery (timed slot mandatory). Sound and light show: €25-30. Total ticket budget: €40-80/person depending on programme.

Local transport is cheap: Uber Cairo-Giza €5-12, electric shuttle on the plateau €3, local taxi for short hops €2-3. A guided day tour Giza + GEM + Saqqara from a Cairo hotel runs €40-80 per person all in (transport, guide, lunch — entry fees extra).
