Central Cuba is best visited from November to April during the dry season. Temperatures are perfect (24-29 °C), humidity reduced, sky clear and conditions optimal for walking on cobbles and excursions. Ancón beach offers perfect conditions year-round (sea at 26-28 °C).
December-February are the most popular but most pleasant months climatically. Trinidad particularly draws tourist crowds in high season — visit early (7-9am) and late afternoon to avoid the midday groups. March-April see lighter crowds and remain climatically excellent. The Trinidad Music Festival in April lends a special atmosphere to the town.
The wet season (May-October) combines heat (30-33 °C) and high humidity. Daily tropical storms make Trinidad's cobbles very slippery. The hurricane season (June-November, peak in September) is the main risk — Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos provinces are regularly hit. If travelling during this period, check INSMET bulletins and take out cancellation-cover travel insurance.
