Cayos and Beaches

Itineraries — Cayos and Beaches

Cayos and Beaches offers a radically different Cuban experience from the rest of the country — that of the all-inclusive beach stay, perfect antithesis of the cultural authenticity of Havana, Trinidad or Santiago. It is a coherent and well-executed proposition: beaches among the Caribbean's most beautiful, comfortable resorts, organised transfers, total safety, but no real contact with everyday Cuba.

The region is structured around three distinct hubs. Varadero is the most accessible — a 20 km peninsula 140 km east of Havana, its own international airport (VRA), 50+ all-inclusive resorts and a road causeway enabling arrival by taxi or bus from Havana in 2-3 hours. It is by far the most practical option for combining culture (3-4 nights in Havana) and beach (4-5 nights in Varadero) in a single one-week trip.

Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo (neighbours, connected by causeway) form the second hub, more exclusive and more natural. These coral islands of the Jardines del Rey archipelago (north-east, facing Ciego de Ávila province) are linked to the mainland by a spectacular 27 km sea causeway. They host about ten 4-5 star resorts, the Jardines del Rey international airport (CCC), and above all beaches among the Caribbean's finest (Playa Pilar at Cayo Guillermo) and the Jardines del Rey coral reef (world's second longest after Belize).

Cayo Largo del Sur is the third and most exclusive hub — a coral island off Cuba's southern coast, accessible only by direct charter flight or domestic flight from Havana (1h). Absolutely paradise beaches (Playa Sirena, Playa Paraíso, ranked among the global top 10), green turtles, wild dolphins, world-class diving. Premium option for travellers seeking absolute isolation and the ultimate beach experience.
