When to go — Hawaii

Hawaii is pleasant year-round — tropical climate with constant trade winds (24-30°C, sea 24-28°C, low seasonal variation). Optimal periods: April-May and September-October — perfect climate (little rain, refreshing trade winds), falling rates vs high season, moderate crowds. This is the window we recommend as priority.

December-March: absolute high season (Christmas and New Year holidays, escape European cold), +50% rates (Paris-Honolulu flights €1,200-1,800 return, Waikiki hotels €400-800/night, Maui €500-1,200). But world-class surf season North Shore Oahu (Pipeline, Waimea, Sunset Beach, 3-10 m waves, Vans Triple Crown competitions November-December) and humpback whale season (December-April, 10,000 whales migrating from Alaska to breed in Hawaiian waters — exceptional observation from Maui Lahaina, Big Island Kona, Lanai). Whale excursions $80-120/person half day.

June-August: hot summer (28-30°C, sea 27-28°C, calm waters ideal for snorkelling-diving), long days (sunset 7:30-8pm). But maximum crowds — American + Asian school holidays (Hawaii massively visited by Japan and Korea, plus continental US), peak hotel and activity rates. Possible cyclones (rare but Hawaii can be hit — Iniki 1992 devastated Kauai, Lane 2018 brushed Big Island, Hone 2024).

Events to note: Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (North Shore Oahu, November-December, 3 consecutive competitions), Aloha Festivals (September, largest Hawaiian cultural festival), Honolulu Marathon (December, 30,000 participants), King Kamehameha Day (June 11, Hawaiian state holiday, parades), Merrie Monarch Festival (Hilo Big Island, Easter week, world's most prestigious hula competition), Whale Tales (Maui, February, humpback whale festival), Honolulu Festival (March, multicultural Pacific celebration).
