The Gouverneur Beach experience is lived in preserved nature mode with relative comfort (easy car access). Prepare your day: bag with water (minimum 2 l/person), snacks, mandatory umbrella (no natural shade), mask-snorkel for snorkelling, optional fins, factor 50 sunscreen, hat, beach towel, book or music.
Arrive early (before 10 am in high season) for parking and freshness. Walking descent via the short path (5 min, easy). Choose your spot: east side (right) for calm sea and family swimming, west side (left) for waves and bodysurf, centre for the mix. The beach is 400 m — space for all.
Swimming: translucent water, pleasant year-round. Stay attentive to waves on the west side (sometimes 1-2 m in winter). No lifeguard — autonomous vigilance.
Snorkelling: decent but not exceptional (prefer Colombier for top island snorkelling). Explore the rocks at the western end — multicoloured fish, sometimes turtles, occasionally rays.
Photography: the beach is extremely photogenic. Best angles: from the parking overlook (plunging view over the entire beach), from the western end (view over hills and sunset), at water level (turquoise sea in contrast with white sand). Magnificent golden light in late day.
Sunset: one of the most beautiful in Saint Barth. West side of the beach. Arrive 30-45 min before to enjoy the colour evolution. Bring champagne or cocktails (bought in Gustavia). Leave before complete nightfall (unlit parking).
Additional activities from the car park: trail to neighbouring Anse à Caye (15 min walk, wilder and less frequented), return to Gustavia (10 min) for lunch or dinner, road to Saline beach (5 min by car) to combine the two beaches.
