Tulum is now one of the most expensive destinations in Mexico — the price of an image that became globally desirable. The reference budget of €70/day per person corresponds to a comfortable trip for a couple: a mid-range boutique hotel room, tourist-zone restaurants and the main site entries.
Accommodation spans a wide range but prices are structurally higher than elsewhere in the Yucatán. A hostel dorm bed in the pueblo runs €12–18/night. A simple guesthouse double in the pueblo lands between €40 and €65/night. Boutique hotels in the hotel zone (beachfront, breakfast included) start at €120 and easily clear €300 in high season for the most coveted addresses (Nomade, Azulik, Be Tulum). Camping and more rustic eco-lodges exist on the Sian Ka'an edge for €30–50/night.
Food in Tulum has the widest price gap of any category. In the pueblo, a full meal in a taquería or local restaurant runs 100–200 pesos (€5–11). Mid-range restaurants in the hotel zone charge 400–800 pesos per plate (€21–42). The trendy beachfront addresses (La Zebra, Hartwood, Arca) can run 1,000 to 2,000 pesos per person (€53–105) for a full dinner with drinks. The smart move is to lunch on the beach from the pueblo and reserve hotel-zone dining for one or two special evenings.
Activities are a meaningful expense. Entry to the ruins is 95 pesos (€5). Cenote access: 150 to 300 pesos (€8–16) depending on the site, with snorkel gear included or rentable. A guided dive trip (two dives, cenote or sea) runs 1,200 to 1,800 pesos (€63–95) at a certified PADI shop. A three-hour kitesurfing lesson costs around €200–250 with the main schools on the beach.
Three budget profiles: the tight backpacker (€45–55/day) sleeps in a pueblo dorm, eats local, visits the cenotes and ruins, gets around by bike. The comfort traveler (€70–100/day) enjoys a decent private room, varied restaurants and two or three activities. The lifestyle traveler (€150–300/day) experiences the beachfront boutique hotels, the signature restaurants and the private excursions — the full Tulum aesthetic at full Tulum prices.
