Amman

Budget — Amman

Amman remains one of the most affordable capitals in the Levant despite noticeable inflation in recent years. A baseline of €75 per person per day covers a comfortable stay: a double room in a well-located three-star hotel, two restaurant meals, taxi transport and a major site visited.

Accommodation covers every band. A bed in a hostel dormitory (Jordan Tower Hostel, Sydney Hotel) runs €10-20. A B&B double room in Jabal Amman or Jabal Lweibdeh (Art Hotel, Heritage House) costs €50-90. Four-star hotels on Rainbow Street (La Locanda, Toledo) sit around €100-150. The Four Seasons and Fairmont (5th Circle) start at €220 a night. The Marriott Amman and the Le Royal are the reliable international picks at €150-200.

Food is excellent value. A falafel-hummus lunch at Hashem: €3-5. A full mezze for two in a good restaurant (Sufra, Tawaheen Al Hawa): €30-40. A traditional mansaf: €10-15 per person. A kunafa: €2-3. The Rainbow Street cafés charge €3-4 for a cappuccino (Western prices). Gastronomic restaurants (Fakhr el-Din, Romero, Sufra) remain affordable with bills of €35-50 per person before wine.

Entry fees are modest and largely covered by the Jordan Pass (70-80 JOD depending on the version, i.e. €85-100, includes the visa and 40 sites including the Amman Citadel, Jerash, Petra, Wadi Rum). Without Jordan Pass: Citadel 3 JOD (€4), Roman theatre 2 JOD (€2.50), Royal Automobile Museum 5 JOD (€6).

Local transport is very affordable. A yellow taxi ride within Amman: 2 to 4 JOD (€2.50-5) depending on distance — always negotiate or insist on the meter. Careem (local Uber): equivalent rates, paid by card. Amman-Petra bus with JETT: 11 JOD (€14) one way, 3h30 journey. Queen Alia airport → central Amman: fixed-rate taxi 20 JOD (€25) or Airport Express bus 3.30 JOD (€4).
