Santiago de Cuba's cost of living is comparable to Trinidad — around 15-20% below Havana for equivalent comfort. The baseline of €60 per person per day covers a casa particular with breakfast, two paladar meals, museum entries and a local excursion.
Casa particular accommodation runs €25-40 per night for a double room. The best addresses are in the historic quarter (Heredia, San Basilio streets) or the quieter Vista Alegre residential area. The Hotel Casa Granda (on Parque Céspedes, 4-star) costs €120-180 a night with breakfast on the legendary panoramic terrace.
Dining centres on the paladares (Roy's Terrace Inn, Salón Tropical, Compay Gallo) — expect €12-20 per person for a full dinner with arroz congrí (rice and black beans), ropa vieja and mojito. Dinner with your casa hosts (€8-12 per person). Mojito €3-4, daiquiri (Santiago specialty) €4-5.
Site entry fees are modest: Casa Diego Velázquez €2, Moncada barracks €2, Santa Ifigenia cemetery €2, Castillo del Morro €6, Museo del Carnaval €2, Casa de la Trova €2 in the evening. A day of activities runs €15-25 per person.
Local transport: private taxi from the centre to the airport €10-15, taxi to Siboney beach €10-15 return, organised excursion to Sierra Maestra €80-120. For Castillo del Morro: return taxi with wait €15-20. Inside the historic centre: walking or bicitaxi (€1-2).
