Plitvice Lakes

Budget — Plitvice Lakes

Plitvice is affordable compared to Dubrovnik or Hvar — count on €90/day/person for a 2-day/1-night stay with nearby accommodation, park entries and meals.

Entry fees are the main expense, highly variable by season. High season (July-August): €40 adult, €23 student 18-25, €12 child 7-18, free under-7s. Mid-season (June, September): €30 adult. Low season (April-May, October): €23.90 adult. Winter (November-March): €10 adult. The ticket includes the electric boat on Kozjak and the high panoramic shuttle. Online booking required since 2019 (np-plitvicka-jezera.hr) — quotas per entry time slot. Book 2-3 weeks ahead in July-August.

Accommodation covers several bands. In-park hotels (Hotel Jezero, Hotel Plitvice, Hotel Bellevue): €90-180/night. Convenient for park access from opening, but average quality. Apartmans in Mukinje, Plitvička Selo, Plitvički Ljeskovac (1-3 km from the entrance): €60-110/night for two. Excellent value. Rastoke (30 km away, picturesque village with water mills on the Slunjčica river): €70-130/night in a charming guesthouse. Rural guesthouses (Falling Lakes Hostel, Plitvice Holiday Resort): €50-90/night.

Dining on site is limited and expensive. In-park restaurants (Lička kuća at entrance 1): €25-40 per person for a meal. Park snacks (sandwiches, kebab): €8-15 per person. Outside restaurants in Mukinje or Plitvica Selo: €20-30 per person for a good meal. Local specialities to try: kotleti (lamb chops from Lika, mountain-bred and famed), strukli (fresh cheese pastry), peka lamb (under the bell, order 24h ahead), fresh Lika cheeses.

Transport from Zagreb, Split or Zadar: FlixBus / Croatia Bus €15-35 per person one way depending on distance, car hire €40-70/day (recommended for flexibility). Parking at the park: €8/day.
